We’re going to develop a free, open-source Thematic Configuration Plugin. It’ll allow new users to configure Thematic without creating a functions.php. And it wouldn’t compromise the lightness of Thematic for hard-core developers.
Features:
- Font options
- Header image options
- Navigation options
- SEO options
- Structure options
- and more
If you want to join this project, or if you have some good ideas for this plugin drop a comment and we’ll contact you as soon as possible.
Thanks!
Chris

hallo Chris
I’m interested in seeing this Plugin. please add me to your List.
thank you
Hope to see this soon. Sounds very cool. Got the link from Ian via Twitter.
I’m not savvy enough technically to help with coding, but I’m willing to test it as a user. I’m also willing to help with English user documentation if needed (my German is very rusty, my French is marginally better).
This is great stuff.
What I would find useful from this plugin are the Header image options, possibility to create a widgetized zone from the menu (http://justintadlock.com/archives/2009/04/15/how-to-widgetize-your-page-menu-in-wordpress) and navigation using the Links functionality in WordPress.
Also the Thesis theme can be used for inspiration, although I really don’t like all that functionality inside a theme (that’s what plugins are all about! )
Cont me in! I might not have the time and skills for this but I know someone who has and just happens to work for me
Thanks a lot for your help!
I hope that I find some time over the weekend to connect all of you to the project. Currently I’m preparing my office for a move that will take place end of this month.
Next week I should have some spare time to sketch the backend of the plugin. I don’t like Thesis’ cluttered option page. We will come up with something that has everything needed to configure Thematic but still looks tidy, well arranged and lightweight. Working with it will be intuitive without the need to study a manual.
.. again .. Thanks you!
Cheers,
Chris
sorry for bothering but:
would be great to have an option to change the formatting of typography and bring it into a localized format.
example: quotation marks
in english language they are on top, the first (opening) looks like “66″, the last (closing) like “99″. in german language the first is on bottom, second on top, they look like “99″ and “66″.
it think this comes along with this: http://codex.wordpress.org/User:Here/Texturize
how can i solve this a the moment without using a plugin?
cheers,
paul
Hey Chris,
I’m the guy who works with Cristian from CozmosLabs.
My coding skills are a bit limited at the moment, but perhaps I could help with certain tasks. So please add me to your list

Gabriel
In terms of options i have come across WPunlimited. Seems to have a fantastic selection of easy to use options. http://www.wpunlimited.com/ this would be ideal.
@Will:
Thanks a lot for this information. I’ll look into the details and let you know what you can expect short-term.
Hi Chris,
I’ll help out however I can, just let me know. Thanks for all your help on thematic!
Michelle
A list of things I’d love to see in this plugin:
1. Similar to current thematic-options a text-field where I can enter hidden text like eg the google analytics code.
2. Date-formatting options. My blog is in German.
Thanks,
Michael
Chris – this looks really interesting -I’d love to play with it and help with testing & feedback.
best

Chris, do you neede help on this thing? I’m here!
though i am new to thematic but am already getting fond of it and i would love to c this widget…theres a suggesstion though…
wud it be possible to create an option of adding extra sidebar options thru this plugin so that if i want a widget placed in a certain position of my blog (wich isnt already covered in thematic) i can do so by specifying that area and your plugin creates a widgetized area at that location!
Count me in for testing and ideas. I can chip in with code depending on time. Great Idea though!
I would love to help with this project. I have created around 3 or 4 child themes for clients and I think this would be great. Thanks.
Anxiously awaiting. Please count me in for any support I could offer. Thanks!
I would be interested to help out in brainstorming and testing. I am currently exploring the world of Thematic Child Themes, so this sounds very interesting!!
Hey Chris. I’d love to help out with development on this. I was working on a theme options panels last week (http://wordpresstheming.com/2009/10/thematic-theme-options-panel/), but it seems like it could be better rolled into a plug-in.
What is the latest on this plugin?
